- Flamingos turn pink from eating shrimp because of the beta-carotene content in the shrimp. Flamingos that don't eat shrimp are white and not pink. Beta-carotene is also in carrots. If we humans ate nothing but carrots all the time, our skin would have an orangish tint to it..
- When you are eating a piece of fruit, you are eating a swollen ovary! Yes, that's right...fruit comes from a flowering plant which contains an ovary which will become the fruit! Food for thought: When you are drinking coffee you are drinking fruit juice!
- Giraffes have adapted an extraordinary tongue for obtaining their staple food source, acacia leaves. The tongue reaching up to 3 feet in total length is prehensile allowing it to maneuver around the large thorns adorning the branches of the tree. Recently it was also found that some acacia species adapted a nauseating liquid driving other animals away. By studying stomach contents and dung, researchers discovered a bacteria developed in the digestive system which once again foils the defense of the tree.
- Cadang-Cadang disease, which occurs in coconut trees, is named after the noise the coconuts make when they fall to the ground.
- Many scientists say that the most effective sleeping position is the fetus position. Reason? That position allows the body to experience the best blood circulation.
- The shape of plant collenchyma cells and the shape of the bubbles in beer foam are the same - they are orthotetrachidecahedrons.
- If all the molecules of DNA in a single human cell were laid side by side they would stretch for 2 meters but it is all packed into a nucleus 10 millionths of a metre across.

I like big words... they're... so... supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
XD!
P.S. thats a real word y'know! The longest English word in existence...
The longest WORD in the world is the African name of some place in Africa... [ -_-"]... yeah Its almost six nine (9) inches long when written in font twelve on an A4 paper!
Richard Lederer wrote in his book Crazy English: super- "above," cali- "beauty," fragilistic- "delicate," expiali- "to atone," and docious- "educable," the sum meaning roughly "Atoning for extreme and delicate beauty while still being highly educable."
*blur*
I saw the longest name for a website in the world...

hi, Mr. Jaya!
sorry for not visiting your blog lately! anyway, those are some really cool facts! especially the one about the carrot! mayb we can get amelia to test it out! (since she loves to eat!!)
hey cheri, good to have you back. missed you around here. :)
hi sir!! sorry i missed ur class on monday, was on da way back from hometown..well it's proven that too much carrot can change our skin colour, but i wonder y this bugs bunny still stays grey ;P..i guess we need to post this fact to looney tunes.
hi puva. funny point about bugs bunny. anyone have any thoughts on that?
Bugs bunny came from an era when TV was still in black n' white. Due to his now obscure and outdated origins which strangely have been imprinted onto his physical plumage.
Also, Bugs bunny being a furry animal and being that it is still not proven that hair colour is affected by diet.
Thus Bugs bunny will remain Grey despite his diet. Because he was 'born' with Grey hair thus Grey his hair shall ever be.
haha...good point jaspreet.
As always... :P
I've seen in the Taiwan TVBS News that there's one lady who's on a diet, and she turns yellow (seriously like a banana) after drinking carrot juice as her meals everyday. Cool isn't it? Well if someone eats carrots AND shrimps, what colour he might turn into? Orange?
yes maliya, actually you WILL turn orange if you consume too much carrots. it's due to the beta-carotene also.
The flamingo fact isn't true its because they eat a blue green algae and that gives them their pink colour.
This is such a wonderful useful resource that you are providing and you give it absent free of charge. I love seeing web sites that understand the value of providing a quality useful resource for free. It?s the old what goes around comes around program..
Very good stuff.
