Forum on Evolution

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the AL608 class for the efforts they put into making the forum on evolution a raving success. The lecturers (both Ms Chee and Mr Jefri) have given such good reviews on your contribution to the forum and I am so proud to have been able to witness the way you guys confidently handled the knowledge you gained through your thorough research. Well done guys! :)

Sadly, we did not manage to take pictures. :(

Evolution of Technology

No, I'm not getting any benefits by posting this video up but I just like this video very much. I used it as an introduction to the topic evolution for my class.

Natural Selection

I thought this animation was a good example of natural selection occuring in nature.

The man who wasn't Darwin

Photograph by Robert Clark; Natural History Museum, London.

The latest National Geographic Magazine carries a surprising article about Alfred Russel Wallace, the guy who was always in the shadows of Charles Darwin.

I think, a little bit of history while studying Bio makes things come to life. So, go enjoy this read.

*Disclaimer: Let it be clear that I'm not in total agreement with both Wallace's and Darwin's idea of evolution. For an alternate point of view, go to http://www.answersingenesis.org/get-answers/features/year-of-darwin

Evolution is a proven fact!

Yes it's that time yet again! That's the topic for the class debate for the 107 and 307 intakes. The email has gone out informing all the Pre-U and Science Department lecturers about it. So you guys better prepare well ya.
For those who are wondering when and where it is, it's on Friday the 7th of December 2007 at 8.30am in lab G06. It's open to everyone and anyone!

For those debating, you can go here for some helpful links on both sides of the topic.

All the best ya!

Evolution debate!

I trust all of those who are involved in the debate are very excited about it? Let me give you more exciting news. I'll have to postpone the debate for the March '06 group to Tuesday (16/1/07). That should be a relief to you. January '06 you're still on for the debate on the 17th. Oh! One other thing...I'm opening the debate to anyone who wants to come and watch. So you might get lecturers or other students coming ya. So you better prepare well!

Here are the websites that'll help:
For evolution
http://www.stephenjaygould.org/
* Check out the Library for articles and People for famous evolutionists. Note in particular people like Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Dawkins, Thomas Huxley, Steven Pinker and Carl Sagan.

Against evolution
http://www.arn.org/
* Look under Featured Authors and some of the good ones are Michael Behe, Philip Johnson, William Dembski (I just saw his book today) and Jonathan Wells(the book he wrote that I couldn't remember is "Icons of Evolution").

Happy preparing!

Evolution upon request

Somebody asked me about evolution right? Well, I've been hunting for something that is as close to the scientific truth about evolution as possible and this is what I've come up with so far. Many articles online or available out there are always at two ends of the spectrum and many are pretty extreme. Hopefully this helps educate. The second link will help you understand the stuff you read from the first link. We must note the significant difference between micro- and macro-evolution.
